8 Reasons to Buy Your Mom a Motorcycle

8 Reasons to Buy Your Mom a Motorcycle

Finding the perfect Mother's Day gift can be a daunting task, but have you ever considered giving the gift of a motorcycle? While it may seem unconventional, there are many benefits to gifting a motorcycle that are worth considering. In the past, you may have gifted flowers, spa days, or vacations, but a motorcycle offers a unique opportunity for adventure, independence, and excitement. Plus, with the current trend towards more women riders, this could be the perfect opportunity to introduce your mom to the joys of motorcycling. Before dismissing the idea, take a look at the benefits below and consider whether a motorcycle might be the perfect gift for your mom this Mother's Day.

8 Reasons You Should Buy Your Mom a Motorcycle

#1. Family Rides

Anyone who has been riding motorcycles long enough knows the joys of going for a group ride. The only thing better than going for a group ride with your friends is one with your family. Even if your family already does countless things together, going for a family spin is a great bonding experience, and I’m sure mom would love to drive her own rather than always being a passenger.

#2. A Healthier Body

If you’re reading this, you probably already know the joys of riding a motorcycle, but did you know it has some notable physical benefits too? Get your mom on a bike and she’ll be burning around 200-300 calories per hour.

A motorcyclist’s muscles get a workout when riding too, as their core and neck constantly need to adjust while riding. The fact you must grip a bike’s tank with your legs means the lower half of a motorcyclist’s body gets a workout too. So not only will your mom be burning calories, she’ll get toned while doing it.

#3. Cognitive Improvements

Research conducted at Tohoku University found riding a motorcycle can improve cognitive function by as much as 50%. This is due to the fact that riding a motorcycle requires a much higher level of alertness and problem-solving ability. This is probably the most fun you can have while doing something beneficial for your brain.

#4. She Will be Happier

Riding a motorcycle doesn’t just improve cognitive function, it can actually make you happier. The flurry of sensations that hit us as we ride a motorcycle causes a release of adrenaline, which in turn causes endorphins to be released. This results in an increased sense of pleasure and decreased sense of pain.

Many motorcyclists, this writer included, claim riding motorcycles helps reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. This is because riding a bike is a very mindful activity, which rarely allows you to drift to thoughts outside of the present moment. So, in a way, riding a bike will give your mom a break from any worrisome thoughts she may have.

#5. She Will Have More Time

Give your mom some more free time every day by encouraging her to use her motorcycle for more of her trips. One study, conducted in the UK, found motorcyclists in urban areas shortened their commuting time by up to 33 minutes on every hour.

Even in more rural, areas motorcyclists saved up to 20 minutes on every hour. Who doesn’t want more time in their day?

#6. She Will Save Money

The average motorcycle in the U.S. gets about twice the MPG of the average car in the U.S. So if your mom starts using a bike for more of her trips, especially her daily commute, she’ll feel the benefits in her pocket.

#7. She Will Make More Friends

Many people find as they get older, it becomes harder to meet new people and make new friends. Any seasoned motorcyclist knows that the motorcycle community is one of the most friendly and welcoming ones out there.

If your mom already has a ton of friends and things to do, great for her. But, if her life could do with an increased sense of adventure and some new buddies to enjoy it with, getting involved with the local motorcycle community could do just that.

#8. The Family Will all be Happier

We all know who the real boss is at home, the one who keeps it all together. Of course, it’s the mother of the household. The argument that your mom would be happier with a motorcycle, rather than without one is pretty clear. And, when your mom’s happy, there’s a good chance the rest of the family are too, including you.
