Adventures in Austin-Land
I met Austin for the first time, quite a few years back when most of the Mondo Enduro crew where in Northern Arizona for the Adventure Film festival. Exposing thousands to his unique humor and forever smile...I have never seen this man without a smile!
He is known not just for his adventures but his style, and yes you too can own a pair of the famous – Austin Overalls! (no in all seriousness he has an entire variety of videos, overalls, patches and more – the perfect selection for the hard to shop for world explorer – Austin has it all for Christmas).
I own a couple of his films and find them both inspiring and laugh out loud humorous at times, a good combination for an evening with moto-friends and films. In the mid 90’s he took off with his mates hitting the road with a journey called Mondo Enduro – it would be the first recorded crossing of the Caucasus, Central Asia, Russia and Siberia making Mondo the first Europeans to reach Magadan post collapse of the Soviet Union. And on 350cc dirt bikes for over 40,000 miles.
They were unsponsored and unsupported, "normal" guys that decided it was a good idea to take a 350 motorbike around the world!
He is not a man of extravagance (except in depth of cultural exploration) and if you need more after you watch Mondo Endure documentary and wish you could ride like Austin, or with Austin...sign up for his Mini-Mondo through the Pyrenees.
Still not inspired – catch one of his and his wife’s (Lois Pryce-you may remember her from a past blog) Adventure Film Festivals held in different locations around the world. This February 2018 find them in Australia. "It’s not just a celebration of the world’s greatest adventure travel films from the 1920’s to the present day. It’s also a weekend knees-up of inspiring speakers and authors, live music and good-time outdoor action!"
When you venture out into his world, you will be reminded that on AustinVince.com there is a strict ethos:
"One hundred years from now, we'll all be dust.
Let it be said of each of us, that we brought our
fellow man more happiness than sadness."Enjoy the world and all the riding that is out there, let those adventurers that have come before you – inspire you, and light the fire for your own journeys.
