It is a love story that has spread from country to country. When they met, a quiet accountant and a motorcycle racer, no one could have predicted the adventure-filled journey they would undertake just three years after their first date!
Grant is the winner of Canadian National Championships in road racing and motocross, Gold Medalist in cross country motorcycle racing, a sailboat racer, scuba diver and expert skier.
Grant meet Susan, a quiet accountant who enjoys playing bridge and reading! With international moves in her childhood, she got the bug early and then focused hard on her career and education in her 20’s.
“By age 31 the 60-70-hour weeks... left her wondering: “Is this all there is to life?" She was ready for new adventures, and Grant was the man to share them with."
Many of us that take on the world with 2-wheels, but there are also those that do it and come back to create one of the most comprehensive motorcycle sites around. Grant and Susan Johnson set out on a round the world journey, two up on a 1986 BMW R80 in 1987 and have created the unique world of Horizons Unlimited.
They are the hosts of the website with a wealth of knowledge and a community to answer almost any question that you might come while traveling around the world by motorbike. I first came across their story at one of there in person – Horizon Unlimited Events – that are now held across the globe.
These are travelers meeting where you don’t feel at all weird when you decide to go on the road for a year on your motorbike. It is encouraged! Filled with many talks and inspirational stories it has an expo feel without all the hype.
Whether you are attending in the US, Canada, or throughout any of the multiple countries that now host HU meetings, you can guarantee you will meet people from around the world.
Many adventure riders will plan these get-togethers into their route!
