No Sky Is the Limit
“The travel bug bites hard, but motorcycle travel bites deep and doing a long trip by bike is the stuff of dreams.” - Sam Manicom
There is something about Sam Manicom that catches you off guard. He is not a man of large stature and is genuinely one of the kindest souls, and yet he has battled any dangerous roads and accidents to come out the other side as one of the top adventure motorcycle authors.
From the beginning of his first journey and where his book Into Africa traverses you are left wondering how did he continue, and that is just after reading the first chapter. A beautiful account of the people, terrain and the challenges and charms of exploring this continent fills the page in lyrical form. What was the drive that fueled his motorcycle?
For Sam, it began by learning to ride, as it does for many of us. But he practiced for only three months and then took off to travel for a year through Africa, but did not stop there. His twelve months had ended so he did what every self-respecting gentleman does – he continued for another eight years journeying through 55 countries and 200,000 miles. Although he does not just pick up his bike for the long distance rides, even today bikes remain his primary mode of transport back in the UK.
You could say Sam is a born traveler, but I would better describe the Congo-born Brit as a born cultural explorer. He shares his passion with others through books, magazines, and live talks as one of the top authorities of Adventure Motorcycle Travel.
“I want to do all I can to share the fun of the road and to encourage others to go out and live their dreams. When a person travels they discover who they really are, what they can achieve, and so much more. The moment a person’s senses are brought alive, an adventure starts to be a success.”
One blog cannot cover the epic adventurer that is Sam Manicom, pick up any of his four books. Or maybe you are not a big reader (in that case thanks greatly for reading this blog) just put in your earbuds and listen to one of his books on audio file. These are read by the author, and yes his accent adds significantly to the adventure!
