The Monotony of Madness – Being Thankful
It is that time of year where we start to reflect, we look around us and find that there are so many people in our lives that bring us joy and happiness. It is that time of year where we may turn inward and reflect on how this last year has gone…did we get to our goals, did we dream big enough? It is also a time to be okay with the monotony/boredom that may be created in the daily grind you are living.
This can be a good thing…the newest research shows that boredom is a gateway to creativity. CAN the monotony of the daily grind be the gateway for bigger dreams, the gateway for passionate travel, soul feeding exploration? YES of course!
So, let your mind wander during your down time at work, let the desire to travel fuel the action steps to get gone! Early on in “my adulting” I taped a world map in the front of my agenda/daily work planner and during those meetings that just would drag on with no job specific benefit, I would day dream, but truly it was more of “day planning”.
The map led to the tracking of savings, which led to the ticket, which led to the soul feeding exploration that I desperately need. Many of the readers have this same magnetic pull to place 2-wheels somewhere new, somewhere you have yet to explore. Instead of ruminating on all the places you just did not go, instead look at all the places your feet…your wheels can take you!
It may be a local jaunt, a get your feet wet type of adventure. It might be to truly immerse yourself into a culture that takes you out of your comfort zone, where language differs from home. No matter what pull maybe, take the bait and run with that line, but be forewarned: you will get hooked, you will become an addicted to adventure!
Last year around this time I wrote a list of awe inspiring books that will get you out there into the world. You will read about the wild adventures of solo-rider Lois Pryce or Nathan Millward’s 125 CC adventures that held more miles on a “scooter” than most of us put on our motorcycles in a year. There are the around the world adventures of Elspeth Beard and the African mishaps and magic of Sam Manicom. No matter what book will grace your fingers this holiday season, if it has inspired you to get out there and ride, then it has done its duty! Ride on, live large, and dream even bigger!
I am grateful to the monotony that became more of a fear than hitting the road solo for a year did. You can read more about my journey in my book 1 Woman, 1 Bike, 1 year.
